Given the immensity of the COVID-19 pandemic, working professionals are required to be attentive and intelligent on how their industries, and consequently, jobs have been impacted. On the other hand they must seek guidance and coaching on actions they need to take to ensure a promising career amid the pandemic.
Here we bring you an interesting chat of the High-Tea session conducted by TimesJobs on ‘Exploring new-age jobs and careers amid the pandemic’, discover how you can strengthen your career in this field.
In a chat session, Madhu Srivastava, Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Vedanta, said, “We all have our own role to play and all these skills/ domains will remain relevant but in case of marketing for instance it would be more on e-marketing, e-commerce, digital marketing which will become important. Developers of course will be one of the hot domains given that more and more companies would look at developing technology solutions for their products and services.”
On being asked about the major roles and opportunities that will grow in the coming time, Madhu said, “I see opportunities coming up in newer areas like digital, analytics, big data, AI, predictive maintenance – all this across industries including manufacturing set ups.”
Madhu also explained that hiring of experts does not affect hiring of freshers. A company hires freshers to build their talent pipeline and grow leaders for the future who have longer careers in the company. Experts bring expertise in global technology/ know-how – new & innovative ways of doing things and are hired generally for a shorter duration of 2-3 years in niche roles. Their role is to immediately add value, give the desired outcome and also train the internal teams and youngsters on the latest global know-how & technology. So, it’s a win win for everyone and they are not there to take away anyone’s job.
